God our 'Dwelling Place', our 'Security'

Psalm 90 is believed to have been penned by Moses in the wilderness on the way to Canaan.

If you read it with that in mind, you can picture the Israelites living in tents, their journey to Canaan filled with danger, trouble and tribulations.

Yet Moses declares of God in verse 1 'Lord you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations'.
'A dwelling place throughout all generations' would mean not just in the past when things may have been better, not just to their forefathers but also to them, not just a dwelling place in the good times but also in the tough times. For the past, present and future!

The fact that they lived in tents did not matter, the fact that they lived with uncertainty of the duration of their journey didn't matter. The fact that they faced various difficulties and trials along the way didn't matter. What mattered was that God the great I am, was with them and was their 'dwelling place' or in other words 'home'.

Our dwelling place or home is where we feel safe, where we feel loved and secure, where we can be at peace and shut out the outside world with it's noise, distractions, difficulties and stresses. We know we are safe and secure at home.

Right now, amidst the constant turmoil around us, the news, the panic, the stress, fear and anxiety caused by Covid-19, we have a 'dwelling place' that is safe and secure and that is in God our Heavenly Father.
We can truly draw close to Him, live in close fellowship with Him,  knowing He is our security, our comfort, our hope, our protector, provider, healer and deliverer. One who will never leave us nor forsake us.
What a great privilege to have this trusting and abiding relationship with the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. We have / can have, this kind of relationship, both now and into eternity.

I'd encourage you church, now more than ever, to make Him your dwelling place, your home. Not just with our words, but in our actions, by drawing close to Him, spending time with Him, in His word and prayer, and living lives that are in full obedience to Him. We have such access to God by the grace that was given to us in Jesus, and let's not take that lightly.

Take a moment to examine your heart and let go of sin that may be hindering you in your relationship with God. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, to forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. Make a decision to live each day by His grace.

If you don't know Him personally, you can do that by asking Jesus to come into your heart, forgive you of all your sins and declaring that you will live for Him, making Him the Lord of your life.

We may not know what the future holds for us right now but it doesn't really matter, because we know the God who holds the future and we can rest safe and secure in Him.

My prayer is that we can truly say, just like Moses did, "Lord you have been our dwelling place -  always".
